I am a PhD candidate in French literature at Stanford University and an ACLS/Mellon Dissertation Completion Fellow, graduating in June 2019.
My dissertation focuses on reactions to evolutionary theory in nineteenth-century popular literature and culture and their implications for modern understandings of race, gender, and sexuality. I am also interested in the environmental humanities, blue humanities, gender and sexuality studies, visual culture and media studies, digital humanities and game studies, and the history of science.
I draw from a background in painting and creative writing and strive to bring creative activities into the classroom. I primarily teach French literature and language classes and have been teaching international film classes for the past five years. I have also worked as a writing instructor for first-year students and graduating students writing honors theses as well as an English tutor for non-native graduate student English speakers.
